Requirements
4.1 Chief Executive Responsibilities
  • Ensure smoking policies and rules are defined, communicated, and compliance is monitored.
  • Ensure policies comply with national, regional, and local smoking legislation.
  • Provide education on the risks of tobacco smoke and programs to help employees quit smoking.
4.2 General Manager Manufacturing Responsibilities
  • Ensure all workplaces comply with the smoking policy.
  • Provide smoke-free workplaces for all company activities.
  • Designate open smoking areas for smokers.
4.3 Prohibited Smoking Areas
  • Smoking is prohibited in:
    • All workplaces not designated for smoking.
    • Vehicles used for company business when transporting more than the driver.
    • Off-plant areas, offices, waiting areas, conference/meeting halls, cafeterias, and places visited by employees, contractors, and visitors.
4.4 Designated Smoking Areas
  • Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas.
  • Designated areas must prevent smoke transfer to other working areas.
4.5 Signage
  • “No Smoking Zone” signs must be placed in appropriate locations, indicating that smoking is an offense.
  • Signs must be understandable to non-readers and in the relevant language.

4.6 Communication

  • Local smoking policies/rules must be communicated to all staff.
  • Contractors, visitors, and the public must be informed about the policy and expected to comply.

  • Departmental heads must ensure their teams are fully aware of this procedure.
  • Contract managers must ensure all contractors are informed about the policy.
Amendments
  • This is the fourth revision of the procedure, issued in March 2021.
